First Reformed Church of Tipler, Astrophysicist

Picked up Charles Stross’ Accelerando the other day. It gets extra bonus points for incorporating Tipler, god of first-year physics textbooks so large that the instructor writes test questions which use the book as a bludgeon…

Greg Egan’s Diaspora was my first introduction to the Singularity subgenre, and I still really like its indepth treatment of electronic consciousnesses from the cogsci viewpoint… Stross is much lighter and more character-centered, somehow, while still preserving the fun of the big ideas. Definitely worth it. I still prefer his collection of elder gods novels, “In Her Majesty’s Service”, for sheer fun to read though.
